The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended active engagement and policy efforts to promote community-based health promotion activities through the Ottawa Charter and Bangkok Charter. The government has pursued health promotion programs through the enactment of the National Health Promotion Act and aimed to expand the program by enlarging health centers nationwide for the health promotion of local residents. The emphasis of public health facilities has shifted from post-disease response to preventive measures, highlighting the need for institutions that can help form healthy lifestyles. As a result, health centers have expanded their roles and sizes beyond traditional medical care to secure the sustainability of health promotion programs by showing changes in architectural space configurations. However, rapid policy development has occurred without sufficient consideration of functional aspects as a lifelong health management center, and the architectural environment of health centers remains subpar. Furthermore, recent social medical problems have paralyzed functions and made it difficult for health centers to provide overall services. Defining the role of health centers and analyzing their space in changing times is necessary for future health center architectural planning. This study aims to examine the spatial composition and characteristics of health centers based on function and facility and to present the direction of health centers that local communities aspire to in health center architectural planning.
