Chinese verb classifier is not only varied in types but also complicated in meaning, making it difficult for foreign learners to fully understand and utilize them. In addition, current Chinese classifier education, including textbooks, focuses on the teaching of noun classifier, which limits the efficiency of learning verb classifiers. Furthermore, compared to the teaching of noun classifier, there are fewer studies on the teaching of verb classifiers, which limits the ability to conduct more systematic teaching.
Therefore, this paper examined the current status of verb classifier education through corpus and textbook analysis for effective verb classifier education in the future. First, we collected example sentences of Korean learners" use of verb classifiers from the HSK corpus and analyzed them to understand the overall acquisition status. Next, we selected the textbooks for analysis by considering the sales rate of domestic textbooks, textbook composition, and learning level, and then analyzed the presentation of verb classifiers in the textbooks. Based on the findings, we suggested points of attention and suggestions for future verb classifier education, including the compilation of Chinese textbooks.
We hope that this study will be useful for future verb classifier education, and more importantly, for systematic classifier education.
