This paper aims to explore strategies for improving the performance of the YOLO model in detecting water puddles with irregular shapes. By utilizing the preprocessed weights of the state-of-the-art YOLOv8 model, various attempts, including hyperparameter tuning, data augmentation, and annotation methods, are made to achieve outstanding performance in detecting water puddles. Finally, the study investigates the limitations of water puddle detection using the YOLO model and concludes the paper by setting directions for future research.
