This study is designed first to examine the reality of parole & probation for Korean delinquents and, second, to suggest future directions of the system to be a more effective tool for crime prevention and reintegration of youth offenders. For these purposes, it will review juvenile crime trends in Korea using the official statistics and other relevant materials.After that it will exhibit current statistics about delinquents under the dispositions of parole & probation: who they are and what they have done. Third, it will attempt to evaluate the outcomes of juvenile parole &probation system by mobilizing previous studies about the effects of the supervision of parole &probation.Finally it will show the problems and limitations of the current system and suggest some key recommendations for further development. Among those are introduction of restorative approach in juvenile criminal policy and consideration of gender-sensitive perspective in response to the growing number of female teenage probationers.
