    The accuracy of Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) turbulence models is uncertain for predicting turbulent transition and separated flow. Model improvement is required to address these phenomena [1]. In the present study, a new approach is presented to improve the Spalart-Allmaras (SA) model for predicting turbulent transition using field inversion. The transitional boundary layer on the S809 airfoil is also investigated as a case study to evaluate the accuracy of the present approach. The flow condition of the Reynolds number Re=2×10⁶ and the Mach number Ma=0.1 at low angles of attack (below 6 deg) is considered for the current numerical investigation. The nominal SA model cannot capture the laminar separation bubble for such a case which includes separation-induced transition. Furthermore, over-prediction of the drag coefficient of the S809 airfoil is observed in the nominal SA simulation compared to experimental data due to resolving a fully turbulent boundary layer.
