This study aimed to investigate the formations used in the K League 1, the top professional football league in South Korea, to identify the relativity between formations. 198 matches were selected as subjects for the study, excluding the upper and lower split matches (n=30) among the entire matches (n=228) during 2023 season. The formation used in the match and the result of the match were used as research variables. The formation was reset using Python Software, and descriptive statistical analysis and cross-tabulation analysis were performed using IBM SPSS Statistics Software. The most used formation in K League 1 in the 2023 season was 5-2-3 (27.5%). The formation with the highest winning rate was 4-4-2 (46% winning rate), and the 3-4-3 formation showed the lowest winning rate at 14.7%. The 4-2-3-1 formation showed the highest winning percentage (66.7%) against the 3-4-3 formation, and in detail, the highest winning percentage (85.7%) against the lower team using the 4-2-3-1 formation when the upper team used the 4-2-3-1 formation. As a result of examining the results of the study, K league 1 teams used 3 and 5 backs more than the English Premier League during the same period. This study is considered significant in that it investigated the formation trends of K league professional football teams at this point in time and provided information on the results of relativity between formations. It provided basic data that can be used to analyze formation in the applied and academic fields.
