This review aims to investigate the effects of exercise duration on blood glucose in adults, with subgroup analyses based on participants" health status and type of exercise training. In addition, this review aims to provide meaningful information on exercise duration, which is not clearly defined in exercise prescriptions. Meta-analysis statistics were performed using Review Manager 5.4. The standardized mean difference (SMD), number of participants, and standard error of the SMD were used to compare the change in the dependent variable between the intervention group (those who exercised in the morning) and the control group (those who exercised in the afternoon). SMD for each study was calculated using Hedges"s g. SMDs were weighted by the inverse of variance to calculate the overall effect and its 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The results of the six selected studies (divided into seven subgroups based on participants" health status) showed that the impact of exercise timing on adult blood glucose was not statistically significant, with a result of –0.13 (95% CI –0.57 to –0.30). Subgroup analysis based on the type of exercise training indicated non-significant results for groups performing aerobic exercise (–0.11, 95% CI –0.74 to 0.53) and combined exercise (–0.22, 95% CI –0.73 to 0.29). Subgroup analysis for participants divided into non-diabetic and diabetic groups showed non-significant effects for non-diabetic adults (–0.36, 95% CI –1.08 to 0.37) and diabetic adults (0.12, 95% CI –0.26 to 0.51). Exercise timing did not have a significant effect on adult blood glucose levels. However, a higher exercise intensity corresponded to larger effect sizes for blood glucose reduction.
