Purpose: The study aims to develop strategies for creating a safe environment at both national and international sports events. It focuses on preventing common safety accidents by understanding the impact of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) on safety consciousness, expertise, and behavioral intention among sports administrators.
Method: An online questionnaire was distributed to 200 sports administrators nationwide from February 1 to 28, 2023. Out of these, 178 responses were deemed valid after filtering out insincere responses such as duplicates and non-responses. The data underwent various statistical analyses, including frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, reliability analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. The threshold for statistical significance was set at a level of 0.05.
Results: The study revealed that the TPB plays a significant role in shaping safety-related attitudes and behaviors among sports administrators. Specifically, it was found that TPB significantly impacts safety consciousness, exerts a substantial influence on behavioral intention, and affects expertise. Additionally, the results showed a significant impact of safety consciousness on expertise. However, safety consciousness did not significantly influence behavioral intention. In contrast, expertise was found to have a significant effect on behavioral intention. These findings underscore the interconnectedness of TPB, safety consciousness, expertise, and behavioral intention in the context of sports event management.
Conclusion: This study, based on the EPB, provides both theoretical and practical insights into how a sports event organizer’s TPB, safety consciousness, expertise, and behavioral intention. It suggests that TPB is a critical factor influencing safety-related attitudes and behaviors among sports administrators. The study’s findings can inform the development of targeted strategies to enhance safety at sports events.
