This study investigated the basic self-reliance abilities and physical activity habits of Korean and Japanese children, and identified the differences and characteristics of the basic self-reliance skills and physical activity habits of children in both countries. It was conducted to provide basic data needed to guide the formation of basic living self-reliance skills. The subjects of the study were 160 children aged 4, 5, and 6 years old attending three kindergartens in Korea and Japan, and their physique measurements, basic living self-reliance skills, and participation in physical activities in daily life were surveyed. First, Korean infants stayed in kindergarten slightly longer than Japanese infants, and Japanese infants secured more sufficient sleep time than Korean infants. In terms of infant physique, the average height in Korea was 7 cm higher and the average weight was 4.5 kg higher in Korea than in Japan. In the Kauf Index, most cases in Korea were grade 3 (15-18): normal, while Japan was grade 2 (13-15): mildly underweight. Second, in terms of differences in infants" basic living independence abilities, sleeping habits were somewhat more stable in Japan than in Korea, and independence in eating habits was also higher in Japan than in Korea. Korea"s ability to become self-sufficient in toilet habits was higher than that in Japan, and there was no significant difference between the two countries in ability to become self-sufficient in hygiene/cleanliness habits. In terms of self-reliance in the habit of putting on and taking off clothes, Japan was significantly higher than Korea. Third, in terms of children"s physical activity habits and participation types, both Korea and Japan had a positive perception of physical activity in terms of "physical activity preference". In "voluntary exercise participation", Japan was participating more actively than Korea, and in "physical activity", Japan was moving their bodies sufficiently. In terms of "number of friends when participating in play", in Korea, there was a tendency to play with a large group of 2-3 or more children, while in Japan, although there was a small difference, there were many children who played with a small number of people. In terms of "play places", Korea played both indoors and outdoors, while Japan had more outdoor play. Fourth, in the relationship between physical activity habits and basic lifestyle habits, children who actively participated in physical activities every day had higher self-reliance abilities than children who did not.
