This study aims to explore the feasibility and directionality of applying generative AI in the architectural design process based on cases of its application in architectural design studios. To achieve this, the current status of generative AI technology development was examined, along with cases of its application in actual architectural design studios and a survey targeting students to propose the feasibility and directionality of utilizing generative AI. Fifteen participants (from 13 teams) who took part in the studio class were surveyed. The frequency of usage was high in the concept design and mass study stages during the architectural design process. This was attributed to the ability to review various design alternatives in a short time by utilizing generative AI in the early stages of design. The survey results from the students also showed overall high satisfaction. Responses indicating increased interest in artificial intelligence through the use of generative AI in an architectural or interior design project and increased efficiency in the architectural design process were prevalent. However, there is still somr room for consideration the copyright issues related to images generated by generative AI, and further research is required to explore the utilization of various generative AI techniques beyond the early stages of architectural design.
