The purpose of this study is to analyze and categorize body type characteristics through the analysis of upper body type data of adult men in Korea. The study aims to provide basic data for clothing production that reflects recent male body type characteristics. The subjects of the study were 956 adult men aged 30 to 49 years of data from Size Korea’s 8th Korean Human Dimension Survey Project, and 50 items of direct upper body measurements and calculations were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 statistical program. As a result of the analysis, individual differences were low in height and length items including height, and individual differences were high in weight, thickness, circumference, and width items. Items above the waistline of height and length items decreased with age, and circumference items tended to increase with age, but neck circumference, neck circumference, and wrist circumference decreased with age. The waist thickness began to thicken in the late 30s and remained the same until the late 40s, but items related to hips and armpits decreased with age. As a result of factor analysis, four factors were derived: ‘horizontal size of the torso’, ‘height and upper limb length of the torso’, ‘shoulder size’, and ‘upper body length’. As a result of cluster analysis, there were four types: tall, obese, average shoulder and upper body length, short and small, average height and upper body, wide chest and thick waist, and average height and upper body but short back length. The ‘tall and obese body type’ has the highest distribution in the entire age group, so it can be said to be the representative body type of adult men aged 30 to 49. In addition, the study also analyzed jacket pattern sizes of five industries to derive the amount of spare needed for jackets. Based on the results, jacket size specifications for each type of body type were presented.
