This research aims to contemplate on the meaning of building a researcher’s identity by the act of covering book papers in English and take a better look at the energy of communication stemming from doing so. The paper is a documentation of in-depth analysis on the <Book Drawing Project> series where the researcher had collected abandoned books by donation in London and used them as the means to support drawings. The research features former artists to compare and analyze a relation between texts and images and their expression methods, centering around the book drawings. On top of that, this paper quotes literature and films to explain a principle of chain reaction of memory that the researcher devises and lays a foundation for a larger room for interpretation. One of the sculptural elements that could be seen in the book drawing series is permeating images that cover and erase characters printed on the book papers. The process of creating the drawings entails an act of covering and destroying, but at the same time, the abandoned books gain a new life as they are created and reborn into artworks. The researcher’s personal experience of being excluded from a community of characters has been one of the engines to create images. Furthermore, exclusiveness of characters is replaced with inclusiveness of images. In the midst of the process, the researcher comes to realize that the power structure of the language puts the artist in a position of minority but all at the same time, a producer of culture who autonomously carries on the art project through book drawing series. Through this paper, it is needed to find a connection between bridging the communication gap brought by a language barrier through artworks as well as exploring and expanding a possibility of communication through books as an object.
