This study examines the current status of local sports in Suwon, Goyang, Yongin, and Changwon, which are special case cities in Republic of Korea. In order to understand the current status of local sports, ''sports facilities owned in the region'', ''sports team(pro/semi-pro)'', ''sports event hosting experience'', ''sports-related specialized projects'', and ''ordinance'' were analyzed through literature research. Based on the results, local sports improvement plans of special case cities were proposed. First, it is necessary to expand the distinctive sports infrastructure. In addition, the cooperative relationship between professional sports teams and local governments should be strengthened. And special case cities should host world-class mega-sports events. Administrative support for the sports industry, local sports brand development and benchmarking are also important. Finally, the operation of the sports council in special case cities was suggested.
