An interferometer is a device that uses laser to measure the distance or movement of objects based on the interference between the object and reference beams. Typically, an interferometer splits a laser beam into two, transmits them, and analyzes the interference frequency formed when the reflected beam from the object meets the reference beam. By analyzing this interference frequency, accurate measurements of distance or movement can be obtained. Especially, heterodyne laser interferometers measure the frequency difference between the two beams to determine physical properties such as distance or velocity. However, to achieve precise measurements, frequency detection with high resolution is required. This study proposes a frequency measurement method using a frequency-to-voltage converter to enhance frequency resolution using frequency control, enabling real-time data conversion. The proposed method employs a setup comprising a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), mixer, frequency to voltage converter, and controller to transition the measured frequency to a higher frequency range with minimized noise, facilitating indirect frequency measurement via controller output. The performance of frequency control is validated through experiments.
