In this paper, the classical Bertotti Loss Separation Model, the complex permeability model, and a time domain One-dimensional Finite Element Method (1-D FEM) are compared for calculation of wideband losses in electrical steel sheets. In 1-D FEM, the effect of the excess loss field is investigated. Furthermore, the coupling mechanism of hysteresis loss, classical loss, and excess loss is comprehensively examined under high-frequency and high magnetic flux density conditions. The obtained results indicate that the excess loss field should be coupled in analyzing the 1-D silicon steel sheet model, and the skin effect has an impact on identifying the value of statistical parameters V<SUB>0</SUB>.
