There has always been a need for secure systems for both military and commercial applications and the most significant area is national security as this encompasses both aforementioned domains. This research study proposes an architecture based on the You Only Look Once version 10 (YOLOv10) framework wherein the authors deploy a custom model trained on a roboflow dataset containing images of the Agm-45-shrike, R-60, (short range missiles), Lgm-30f-minuteman-ii and Ugm-133-trident-ii (long range missiles). Our model is designed to perform real-time missile classification, detection and tracking, of which we obtained an overall accuracy of 97.9% across all class predictions. Most of the defense systems in use globally are costly and depend on signal processing which leaves them prone to false detections. Furthermore, advancements in projectiles such as Computer Vision (CV) missiles that utilize ‘fire-and-forget’ guidence call for a matching response in the development of CV based countermeasure systems. The Intelligent Embedded Defense Systerm (IEDS) we deploy leverages IoT to capture visual data which is read by our YOLOv10 model through an internet connection for real-time processing. We base our predictions on the confidence score to significantly limit the occurance of false alarms which saves resources unlike traditional systems. We integrated this framework using Arduino Uno, wherein a signal is sent to the microcontroller based on the predicted CV classes and our preloaded program lights an LED for each corresponding countermeasure. Where no detections are made or confidence is low, the system remains in standby mode. This study provides up-to-date, reproducable and reliable findings along with proof of concept for an IEDS that can readily be integrated to legacy military hardware, or complement existing countermeasure systems for commercial airlines like El Al Israeli Airlines. The research conducted has critical real-world application and the framework we proposed can flexibly be transmuted to perform more tasks for both defense and offense, focusing on national security.
