The primary objective of this study is to assess the architectural planning of public building remodeling projects in Korea. The secondary aim is to identify user-focused cases and highlight key characteristics and issues. As the number of public building remodeling projects increases, user collaboration has become essential from the planning stage. This analysis examined 767 projects planned between 2014 and 2023, using preliminary review data from the National Public Building Center. From these, nine user-centered cases were selected, revealing their main characteristics. The findings indicated that substantial repairs were the most common type of remodeling, making up 43.4% of cases. Education and research facilities accounted for the majority of functions being remodeled, at 64.3%. In terms of procurement methods, suggestion competitions were the most prevalent, representing 47.1%. The nine selected cases aimed to improve facilities and enhance functions due to aging or to change existing uses for new purposes. Resident involvement was noted in 66.7% of cases, while stakeholder participation reached 77.8%. Surveys and interviews were the most frequently used methods, utilized in 88.9% of cases, while educational events were the least common, at 44.4%.
