This paper attempts to clarify the development context of the research on impolite in China in the past 20 years, explore the shortcomings of the relevant research, and look forward to its future development trend. Through the “China Knowledge Network” to retrieve the topic of “impolite” papers, after screening, selected 503 related papers as the research objects. Based on content analysis and quantitative statistics, the existing research results are divided into theoretical research, applied research and comparative research. The results of this study are as follows:In the past 20 years, the research on “impolite” in China has shown the characteristics of various perspectives and rich content. There are also many well-known indigenous scholars in this field. However, the existing research is limited to descriptive research, lack of empirical research, and lack of research results on the nature of impolite language, especially on impolite evaluation and cognition.
