The area around Nakwon Apartments in Jongno-gu, Seoul, has deteriorated over time, and the nearby parks have also aged alongside it. The purpose of this study is to analyze the behavior of people using Tapgol Park to address the issues of park aging and pedestrian environment problems caused by the concentration of elderly population. The research method employed observations and behavioral mapping. The Nakwon area is divided into three locations: (1) Nakheuidong, (2) Tapgol Park Exterior, and (3) Tapgol Park Interior. They are located in the middle of old downtown in Seoul. Each location was visited six times on weekdays and weekends at 10am, 12pm, and 7pm. The results were as follows: 1)Population concentration areas and behavior types varied according to different time periods, 2)The differences by time period seem to show that park usage changes according to the daily activity patterns and space utilization methods of the elderly. This study finally suggested that it is necessary to prepare space improvement measures tailored to the time periods of elderly concentration and behavior types, and to create an environment that introduces design elements reflecting the distinction of territoriality.
