This study aims to provide basic data for providing high-quality hospice services by analyzing the healing environment factors of hospice hospitals, amid growing social interest in hospice and life-sustaining treatment decision-making systems (well-dying methods) ahead of the entry into an ultra-aging society in 2025. Hospice helps end-stage patients be freed from the fear of death by accepting life positively and recognizing death as a natural part. It aims to support patients to keep the rest of their lives as comfortable as possible and live quality lives. Currently, there is a need for a healing environment that can relieve psychological pain in the lack of the number of hospice beds in Korea and in an environment centered on functional treatment. Based on previous studies, the healing environment elements were classified into natural, physical, psychological, and social environments, and the healing environment elements were organized in relation to the physical environment of the hospital space. In the healing environment, natural elements play an important role in providing emotional stability to patients, and the healing environment including natural elements contributes to improving the quality of hospice by promoting the patient’s emotional stability and comfort. This study is expected to contribute to the last moment for patients in a better environment, and continuous efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of hospice services will be needed.
