The widespread adoption of air conditioning and the rapid increase in summer outdoor temperatures due to climate change have led to a rapid rise in AC usage and a diversification of user behaviors. Consequently, it is no longer feasible to predict air conditioning usage behaviors based solely on architectural or socio-economic factors alone. A deeper consideration of how users actually manage their indoor environment is required. This study aims to investigate the impact of residential air conditioning usage behaviors on indoor environments and energy consumption. Utilizing a combined approach of interviews and quantitative data analysis across 29 households, the study analyzes how factors such as air conditioning usage time, nighttime use, perceptions of electricity costs, environmental concerns, and the use of AC control apps influence indoor temperatures and overall energy use. The results highlight the need for personalized energy-saving strategies that balance indoor comfort and energy efficiency. Furthermore, additional analysis is needed to explore the interactions between lifestyle patterns, architectural characteristics, and technology use in optimizing energy use and developing more refined indoor cooling control strategies.
