The purpose of this study is to explore the competencies of teacher required to successfully conduct Korean dance classes for foreigners. To this end, the current status and characteristics of Korean dance education for foreigners that have been implemented so far are summarized. In addition, by conducting in-depth inter- views with teachers, learners, and producer who have experienced Korean dance education for foreigners, the capabilities of dance teachers for the internationaliza- tion of Korean dance were derived. As a result of the study, first, it is more appropriate to approach Korean dance education for foreigners at the present time as the concept of global dance educa- tion rather than multicultural dance education. Second, the current status of Korean dance education for foreigners is the National Theater's Performing Arts Academy for Foreigners, the KOFIS's K-com- munity festival, and the ‘Korean Traditional Dance’ at Ewha Womans University's International Summer Colledge. Regular education is conducted for a long time, taking into account the learner's propensity and the characteristics of the educa- tional environment. Third, as a result of in-depth interviews with nine research participants who have experienced Korean dance education for foreigners for many years, the com- petence of dance teacher for the internationalization of Korean dance education was derived as specific content according to knowledge, skills, and attitudes. Fourth, based on the results of literature research and in-depth interviews, a teacher competency model for internationalization of Korean dance education was derived. The competency model was derived with a total of 4 competency groups, 16 competencies, and 38 behavioral indicators, and the instructor can refer to this and apply it to Korean dance education for foreigners. This study supports the situation of teachers who have to face a special educational field and can contribute to the development of the professional com- petence of prospective dance teachers.
