Objectives: To analyze the demographic characteristics of patients who were prescribed antidepressants after diagnosis of psoriasis and to analyze the prescription patterns of antidepressants that may affect the exacerbation of psoriasis. Methods: The prescription patterns of patients who were prescribed antidepressants at least once after diagnosis of psoriasis (ICD-10: L40) were analyzed using data from the Health Insurance Reviews & Assessment Service National Patient Sample (HIRANPS) from 2018 to 2020. For statistical analysis, chi-square test and logistic regression analysis were performed, and all analyses were carried out using SAS 9.4. Results: In Korean psoriasis patients, the rate of prescription of antidepressants after diagnosis of psoriasis was 7.5% and 25.3% of the prescribed antidepressants were related to exacerbation of psoriasis. In particular, antidepressants associated with exacerbation of psoriasis were frequently prescribed by female (56.4%), over 60 years of age (40%), and primary care institutions (70.2%). Conclusion: In psoriasis patients, the prescription rate of antidepressants was higher among female, and correlated with increasing age and decreasing income level. Psycho-dermatological treatment considering the demographic characteristics is needed to manage depressive symptoms, and antidepressants associated with exacerbation of psoriasis need to be prescribed more cautiously.
