This study investigates the microstructural and chemical compositions of tungsten carbide (WC) circular saw blades from two manufacturers used for aluminum cutting. The blades are analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Company A's blades incorporate Co, Ni, and Fe as binders, thus resulting in a uniform microstructure and enhanced mechanical properties. The presence of Ni improves the corrosion resistance significantly, whereas Fe contributes to additional strength and toughness. Conversely, Company B's blades rely solely on Co as a binder, thus resulting in increased aluminum contamination, which may be correlated with the observed blade chipping. Brazing analysis suggests that A's blades, with higher Cu and Zn contents, provide superior strength and high-temperature durability, whereas B's blades, with a higher Ag content, facilitate easier brazing. Plate analysis show that A's plates contain abundant C and Mn, thus offering high strength and crack resistance, whereas B's plates contain more Cr and Ni, thus providing enhanced corrosion resistance and ductility. These findings highlight the effect of material composition on the performance and durability of carbide circular saw blades and provide valuable insights for optimizing blade selection and use in industrial applications.
