PURPOSE : To review the relationship between 24-hour activity behaviors and mental health among children and adolescents, aiming to provide suggestions for policymakers and decision-makers.
METHODS : After retrieving the databases of CNKI, WOS, PubMed, SPORTDiscus, and Cochrane Library using computers, two researchers conducted literature screening, data extraction, and quality evaluation. Frequency analysis was used to statistically analyze the relevant studies on potential positive benefits.
RESULTS : A total of 20 studies were included, involving 275,712 children and adolescents aged 3 to 18 years. This study found that there are significant associations between following the PA guidelines and 8 indicators; following the ST guidelines and 13 indicators; following sleep guidelines and 12 indicators; following both PA and ST guidelines and 7 indicators; following both PA and sleep guidelines and 9 indicators; following both ST and sleep guidelines and 16 indicators; and following all three guidelines of PA, ST, and sleep with 14 indicators.
CONCLUSIONS : Adherence to 24-hour activity behavior guidelines is positively correlated with multiple indicators of mental health.
