Research topics: This study explores the concept of ‘Gam-eung(感應)’ found in Geunsarok(近思錄) and examines its implications for the educational environment in the rapidly advancing Fourth Industrial Revolutionary era
Research background: Geunsarok is a foundational Neo-Confucian text from the late 12<sup>th</sup> century, widely read by Confucian scholars, presenting the fundamental principles and goals of Confucian study. This study examines how the concept of Gam-eung can be applied and realized in the modern education.
Differences from prior research: While previous studies have primarily focused on the moral or ethical educational significance of Geunsarok, there is a lack of research exploring its educational implications. This study attempts to interpret the meaning of ‘Gam-eung’ by addressing issues, such as individualism and human alienation, brought about by the digitalization and technological advances of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Research method: First, the study examines how the principles of ‘Gam-eung’ in Geunsarok manifests whin the process of self-cultivation in Confucianism. Then, it considers how this concept can be applied and realized in modern educational theories, focusing on the concept of nomadism. Based on this, the study identifies the significance of the ‘Gam-eung’ principle in the education.
Research results: From the perspective of Gam-eung as internal transformation(應) in response to external stimuli (感), it can be developed into an educational principle that addresses the issues of individualism and maximizes the benefits of digitalization.
Contribution points and expected effects: This study offers a new interpretation of Guensarok and examines its educational implications. By applying the ‘Gam-eung’ principle to the digitalized educational environment of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it provides a meaningful approach to resolving issues like human alienation and promoting harmonious humanistic education.
