Objectives The purpose of this study was to analysis in clinical research of Short Physical Performance Battery for evaluation of degenerative spinal disease. Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted up to September 2024, utilizing databases such as PubMed, EMBASE, The Cochrane Library, ScienceON, KISS, Kmbase, KoreaScience, RISS and OASIS. Using keywords such as 'Short Physical Performance Battery(SPPB)' and 'degenerative spinal disease', 'spinal stenosis', 'spondylosis', 'hyperkyphosis', 'scoliosis', 'Herniated intervertebral disc(HIVD)'. Results Nine studies were eligible as per our inclusion criteria. Most studies were conducted in America, particularly united States of America. Seven articles were conducted in united States of America, two articles were conducted in Europe, and there was no articles published in Asia. Out of the total 9 studies, 1 Randomized Controlled Trial, 2 Cohort Studies, 1 Before and After Study, 2 Cross Sectional Studies and 3 Case-Control Studies. Nine articles were analyzed to describe each research topic, method, and research results. Conclusions The review indicates that SPPB is effective in evaluation of degenerative spinal disease. However, the study also highlights the need for more standardized research to establish the efficacy of SPPB for evaluation of degenerative spinal disease. In the future, more studies should be conducted to establish the evidence of SPPB related to degenerative spinal disease in the Korean medicine to achieve clinical application and to develop treatment protocols.
