This study aims to analyze the current status and limitations of idle space regeneration in the context of urban decline and regional inequality, and to propose sustainable regeneration strategies. To this end, prior studies and domestic and international cases were reviewed, and in-depth interviews were conducted with five experts experienced in policies, design, and management related to urban regeneration and idle space utilization from June 20 to July 10, 2025. The results highlight the need to establish classification and response models for different types of idle spaces, secure legal and financial support systems, and design monitoring mechanisms and governance structures based on long-term collaboration. In conclusion, idle space regeneration should move beyond short-term facility refurbishment toward planning and sustainable management systems that reflect local contexts, thereby promoting both community revitalization and balanced regional development.
