This study investigates the transformation of the surrounding area following the establishment of the Mungyeong Cement Plant, one of the key industrial facilities built during Korea’s post-war recovery. To support national reconstruction after the Korean War, the United Nations Korean Reconstruction Agency (UNKRA) planned the construction of the plant in Singi-ri, Mungyeong. Formerly agricultural land, Singi-ri was rapidly reshaped into an industrial village with the arrival of the plant. The growth of the cement industry spurred continuous infrastructure development, including the construction of company housing and the introduction of electricity and a water supply system. As the industry later stagnated, efforts were made to restructure the village—such as road improvements and the creation of new industrial complexes—in an attempt to revitalize the area. By tracing this temporal progression, this study examines how the establishment of key industrial plants during the post-war recovery period influenced the development of their surrounding environments.
