초록·키워드
The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics and potential for improving the habitability of semi-basement housing, rather than defining it merely as a substandard dwelling type. The research is based on in-depth on-site interview data collected as part of the “Study on the Actual Conditions and Support Measures for Vulnerable Housing,” conducted since July 2025. Among a total of 205 interviews, three households with secured habitability were selected as representative cases and analyzed in terms of housing maintenance, spatial utilization, residents’ perceptions, and overall satisfaction with their living environment. The findings reveal that, despite physical constraints, all three cases maintained a certain level of residential stability through self-managed efforts and institutional support. These results suggest that semi-basement housing can serve as an inhabitable and sustainable residential type when accompanied by appropriate physical improvements and social assistance, rather than being regarded as a dwelling to be eliminated.
