The purpose of this study was to investigate residents’ perceptions and opinions regarding the impacts of climate change on their housing units, particularly those living in semi-basement and rooftop units. Data were collected through structured in-depth interviews with 172 households in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do from July 2025. Residents’ perceptions of climate change and its impacts from five weather phenomena—heat waves, heavy rain, typhoons, cold waves, and heavy snow— were measured on a 5-point scale. The data were analyzed using t-tests and one-way ANOVA. The results showed that the overall perception of climate impact was very high, with an average score of 4.52 (89.9% high perception). Heat waves (3.86) and heavy rain (3.72) had the greatest perceived impact on vulnerable housing environments. Rooftop residents showed significantly higher vulnerability to cold waves (t = -3.485, p < .01) and typhoons (t = -2.269, p < .05) than semi-basement residents. Those with longer residence periods perceived heavy rain risks significantly higher (F = 11.019, p < .01). These findings suggest that targeted support programs and adaptive policies are needed to help vulnerable housing residents better prepare for the impacts of climate change.
