PURPOSE : This study explores the factors influencing users’ willingness to adopt and utilize new sports technologies. As emerging innovations such asdevices, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), mixed reality (MR), artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analyticsto reshape the sports industry, understanding the determinants of user adoption is critical for optimizing technology integration and market acceptance.
METHODS : A systematic literature review was conducted, categorizing the influencing factors into four key dimensions: individual factors, social and environmental factors, technological factors, and market factors. The study synthesizes findings from technology acceptance theories (e.g., TAM, UTAUT, AIDUA) and empirical studies on sports technology adoption to identify key determinants and barriers.
RESULTS : The review highlights those individual factors, such as perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, motivation, self-efficacy, and innovativeness, are primary drivers of adoption. Social and environmental factors, including social influence, subjective norms, and social interactions, shape users’ decisions through external pressures and community engagement. Technological and market factors, such as technology readiness, interoperability, pricing models, privacy concerns, and accessibility, further determine the feasibility and long-term adoption of sports technologies. Additionally, the study identifies major challenges hindering adoption, including data quality issues, ethical concerns, user resistance, and economic constraints.
CONCLUSIONS : Addressing these challenges requires a multidisciplinary approach integrating technological advancements, user-centered design, and strategic market interventions. Future research should focus on enhancing technology interoperability, data security, user engagement strategies, and sustainable business models to drive broader adoption and maximize the impact of sports technologies.
