Despite rapid advancements in artificial intelligence and robotics, a paradoxical trend remains in which highly educated individuals and career-transition workers often return to repetitive manual labor. The field of interior systems, particularly wallpapering, exemplifies this challenge, facing significant issues including a chronic labor shortage and an aging workforce. While automation is a potential solution, existing systems have limitations in practical field application due to difficulties with uneven surfaces. This study presents the design and development of an adaptive compliant hinge to address these issues. The proposed system is expected to reduce the burden of repetitive tasks in wallpaper application and provide a potential solution to chronic labor shortages in the construction industry.
