This paper proposes an intelligent Internet-of-Things (IoT) System called an IoT-Air system for providing fresh air to indoor environments (e.g., home, office, classroom, and hospital). This paper proposes an IoT air control system (called IoT-Air System), which is an autonomous IAQ management system for provisioning fresh air conditioning in indoor environments, using IoT devices, edge computing systems, and cloud computing systems. IoT devices with air-related sensors interact with an edge server for edge computing and a cloud server for cloud computing. The cloud server manages the information of users’ mobile devices, IoT devices, edge servers, and indoor layout (i.e., blueprint) as a controller in the autonomous IAQ management system. The edge server collects sensing data from the IoT devices for the IAQ measurement and analyzes the IAQ using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms such as multivariate regression, decision trees, support vector machines, and deep learning. Edge servers receive sensing data from IoT devices to calculate IAQ and analyze it using AI and ML algorithms. After analyzing data from indoor IoT devices and public outdoor air quality information, the IoT-Air system autonomously recommends appropriate actions to users through mobile devices or performs appropriate actions for the sake of the users. By utilizing real-time data and sophisticated analytics, these systems can provide a proactive and complete approach to indoor air quality control, dramatically improving health and operational efficiency. This study emphasizes the transformative power of IoT and AI/ML technologies in producing healthier, safer, and more efficient environments across a variety of industries.
