    Adaptive behavior is vital for the social participation of students with intellectual disabilities (ID). Virtual reality (VR) offers a controlled and immersive environment for evaluating adaptive behavior. However, prior work using VR social interaction tasks remains scarce. This study introduces a ‘virtual greeting test’ where students interact with an avatar through bowing. Head tracking data were collected to extract features related to head movement. Thirty- two students with ID participated, and support vector machine (SVM) were trained to classify adaptive behavior levels (high vs. low). Results showed that in the bowing task, the mean and standard deviation of head speed showed significant group differences (p < .01). The trained SVM achieved 90.6% accuracy, 93.8% sensitivity, 88.2% precision, and a 90.9% F1 score. Results demonstrate the feasibility of the virtual greeting test for assessing adaptive behavior, highlighting the potential of head tracking feature as an objective and scalable assessment tool for ID.
