The aim of this paper is to compare 6 recent Korean pronunciation dictionaries in terms of 10 properties and to propose directions that they should follow in the future. Among the 10 properties, the only one thing is shared by all 6 dictionaries, that is the 6 dictionaries have in common the fact that they do not cover dialects. Taking into account advantages and disadvantages that the dictionaries have, I propose 8 aspects to be considered. They are the followings: detailed and sufficient guide, two kinds of phonetic symbols, comprehensive listing of existing phonetic forms and their variations with speed or style, referring to fieldwork results, coherence of representation, research on the semi-long vowel and description of emphatic lengthening. With the help of speech synthesis and speech recognition techniques, we could develop more convenient pronunciation dictionaries in the form of electronic one in the near future.
