초록· 키워드

The aim of this research is to examine the derivative forms of causative suffixes in Modern Korean. 'Causative suffixes,' creating a new word by combining suffixes with a base, are the suffixes that make declinable words with causative meanings. The word produced by these derivative suffixes is called 'the derived-causative word.' The derived-causative word is a derived verb with the meaning that the subject of a derived word let one of the base do something. The derived-causative word has several characteristics in its form, function and meaning. First, the formal characteristics of the word is that the causative suffix is combined to the base. Second, the functional characteristics is that the causative suffix creates a transitive verb, by combining the base of a derived-causative word such as intransitive verb, transitive verb, and adjective. Third, the meaningful characteristics is that the subject of a derived word let one of the base do something. In Modern Korean, there are several suffixes of the derived-causative word with those characteristics: -이-, -히-, -리-, -기-, -우-, -구-, -추-, -으키/이키-, and -애-. Each of the suffixes, '-으키/이키- and -애-', has only one derived-causative word of '일으키다/돌이키다 and 없애다‘ respectively. Thus they do not have their productivity because each of them has only a word derived by themselves respectively. Thus this research, putting them aside, examines the other suffixes. All these suffixes are the transformed figures of a morpheme.
