As interior design has become popular in recent years, a proper representation of its awareness of profession and contributions to quality of life is needed. If interior design is introduced in elementary and secondary education (K-12), students will enter college with more knowledge about the profession as well as develop awareness of interior design in everyday life. The purpose of this study is to suggest the potential of interior design curriculum to elementary and secondary education in the nation. Primary goals were to 1) introduce the definition and curriculum of interior design, 2) investigate previous research and case studies, 3) identify available contents and instructional strategies, and 4) develop interior design curriculum model that could be adapted to K-12 educational settings. Content analysis method was used to collect data for this study. An integrative model of interior design involvement in elementary and secondary education is developed in three levels; 1) interior design awareness, 2) career exploration, and 3) work-based experience. Appropriate instructional content materials and examples, instructional strategies, and curriculum design model were also presented.
