A Comparative Study on the Nature of Chinese Poems of Ancient Korean and Japanese Writers Lee, Yeon-suk (Dong-Eui Univ.)This paper investigated works of Park In-Bum, Choi Chi-Won, Choi Gwang-Yu and Choi Sun-Woo of Shilla in comparison with poems in Hoipungzo( 懷風藻). Main findings are as follow.First, works of Shilla poets were created mainly in their personal environments, while most poems in Hoipungzowere written in public circumstances.Second, in the method of formalization of the nature, Shilla poets used the sun and mountains and water as materials for personal feeling of loneliness, while sun and moonand mountains and water in Hoipungzo}were used mainly for formal Confucian expression. Shilla poets expressed their loneliness and stranger status using materials of lonesome image and alienated plants and animals. Contrary, works in Hoipungzo}used plants and animals related to Confucian and Taoist thoughts as the materials, showing that they could not escape from the Oriental formal literatures. Third, Shilla writers song lonesome autumn sentiment. Contrary, works in Hoipungzo}song spring more. Lonesome autumn image did not appear even when they refer to autumn. This is due to the fact that their creative environment is a public one.Fourth, works of Shilla writers are mostly poems of 7 letters while works in Hoipungzoare mostly poems of 5 letters. This due to the fact that Japanese at that time were in need of creative ability writing Chinese poems. Owing to this, together with the public nature of creative environment, the Japanese could only stay at the stage of borrowing formal expressions of Chinese works.
