The independence from Japan and evelopment oward the modernsociety were the most important ask and the center of al discourse duringthe nlightenment period. The stablishment of the national identity was theesential factors to complete the task. Eve those people whohad totalydiferent point of view drew out such proposition. Though the discourse onnationalism during the nlightenment period, it concentrated lots of people.In this point, we could cal nationalism as internal drivingforce forenlightenment.The publishment of newspapers and magazines during enlightenmentperiod was one of most remarkable change of environment. Newspapersand magazines were media open to intelectuals for writing.If the drivingforce of enlightenment and independence were the nationalism, the specificmethod given was enlightening writing. The most important purpose ofnewspaper writing was to grow out of ignorance. Education andenlightenment were the most important factors for writing.This apeared on the surface of editorial. The creation of typical character lead alegoricreading.But even the newspaper editorial had strong enlightening features,literary features could be found in such writing. Literary way of writingwas used for efective comunication and persuasion. It induced anecdotesand created changeable character. The way of description became variousand personal taste and interests were revealed. The influence from clasicalliterature could be found.The intelectuals of Korea during the nlightenment periodaceptedthe literary writing upon the political necesity. The newspaper editorials during enlightenment period played the role as the main stream of modern narrative style of Korea, reflecting the particularity of that period.
