The image of 'Hometown' in Modern Korean/Chinese literature Park, Nam-yongThis study is about the comparison of the image of hometown between modern Korean and Chinese literature after the 1920s. I handled the process of discovering, losing, and recreating 'hometown' as an image. After the 1920s, Korea and China have formed and developed their new modern literature and in this process they were influenced by modern western literature. The discovery, loss, and reinvention of 'hometown' was developed as a modern image in the process of receiving western literature. I found two short stories which have the same subject: 'hometown'. One is written by Chinese writer 'LuXun' and the other is written by Korean writer 'Hyun Jingeon'. Through two short stories' homecoming, I could make a study of 'hometown' - the process of discovery and loss. Moreover, I compared several modern Korean and Chinese poets - Chinese poets are 'WenYiDuo', 'AiQing', 'DaiWangShu', and Korean poets are 'Jeong Jiyong, Lim Wha, Baek Seok, Lee Yong-ak'. By researching their poetic image of 'hometown', I was also able to find their reinvention of 'hometown'. They were recreating their 'hometown' by losing, idealizing, and leaving hometown. In conclusion, the literary feeling of 'hometown' appears clearly through the Korean and Chinese literature. Furthermore, discovering, losing, and recreating 'hometown' became a common phenomenon for modern Korean and Chinese literature under the colonial or semi-colonial period. That is to say, 'hometown' became a modern imageable place.
