Lee, Mu-yeong can be considered as a writer, who has not yet been explicated in terms of his pro-Japanese views. In 1943 Mu-yeong published Hyang-ga in installments in 『Maeil Sinbo』, which can throw an objective light on adverse criticism of his pro-Japanese attitude, with a profound analysis.
The Hyang-ga from 1943 was published in book form in 1947 during the liberation period. Comparisons between the 1947 publication with the original text of 1943 show the changes, as well the deletion, the original text gone through since its production. We can extract the thoughts of the writer perfectly after restoring those deleted part.
Finally, this book promotes the national policy for rural development, and above all describes the spontaneous assistance provided by the volunteers using Japanese as a common language. Mu-yeong sympathized with the extensive process of becoming Japanese and argued the premise of common usage of Japanese language. The work Hyang-ga mainly cherished this idea.
In around the late Japanese imperialism period, Mu-yeong was the most notable writer, and published the highest numbers of Japanese novels compared to other contemporary Korean authors. From this aspect, it can be easily concluded that his pro-Japanese views were not a compulsion but a spontaneous and positive one.
