In Seo Jung?ju’s early poems, the image of poetic ego appears in two contrary forms, which are body image damaged by self?abasement and divine self?image. This study proves that the two contrary images of ego are, in fact, out of the poet’s desire pursuing a heroic ego. The poet who has such a heroic ego and huge ego shows the tendency of narcissism absorbed into the ego rather than the opposite in the relation of ‘love.’ As a result, the opposite falls into a sign as an aim of desire.
This study clarifies that love device ‘Gurium(그리움)’ was invented by ‘removing’ the object of ‘love’ in order for the subject with the consciousness of ‘huge ego’ to achieve impossible love. However, ‘Gurium’ is nothing but a fantasy projecting the ego’s mind one?sidedly. ‘Gurium’ has a structural contradiction that it is activated by the absence of ‘relation.’ The poetic self moves toward ‘inter?subjective Gurium,’ a new way of ‘love.’
