Needless to say, Laozi is of great importance during the whole history of Chinese philosophy, however, its literary value is seldom mentioned by the scholars of both fields of literature and philosophy. As is argued by Laozi himself, “True words are never resplendent”, many scholars insist on the historical misunderstanding that in the book Laozi simplicity and naïveté are more important than beauty and resplendence. This article focuses on the argument of “True words are never resplendent”, discusses the viewpoint of naïveté, the strategy of Language, the reception of classics and the writing skills demonstrated in Laozi, in order to manifest its significance in the history of Chinese literature.
