The purpose of this study is to find the syntactic rules in adnominal clauses in 21th century’s Korean essays. This paper can be summarized as follows.
Adnominal clauses is classified into ‘slipped adnominal clauses’ and ‘complete adnominal clauses’. Deep structure of slipped adnominal clauses is almost equal with that of ‘quotative clause’. And the subjects are slipped more than other sentence elements.
Indirect quotations are embedded in complete adnominal clauses more than direct quotations. And the number of ‘thought type modified nouns’ is almost equal to the number of the ‘language type modified nouns’.
Every formal quotations that are embedded in adnominal clauses are ‘－고 하－’ omitted type. And almost direct or indirect quotations are almost ‘－고 하－’ omitted type.
