What would it mean to re-envision the anthropological project as a dance? How might we replace the study of a culture as an object with a moving with people as subjects? What are the methodological implications of this paradigm of mutual responsiveness ? a reciprocal dancing in which both partners are moving and being moved? In this essay, I propose bodily sensation as a critical intervention in the interpretation of cultures and use the opportunity presented by this conference on dance and anthropology to think through various issues at stake in my research project comparing Capoeira, Contact Improvisation and Queer Tango.
