Recently, Gim and Kim(1998) showed "the general relation" between the input requirements matrix for final demand Γf and the input requirements matrix for output Γg in the traditional(open static) input-output model. Furthermore, Gim(2002) also proposed that the output requirements matrix for final demand(or the Leontief inverse) Cf can be decomposed into four different factors. From the decomposition of the matrix Cf, we can get the new output requirements matrix for output Cg. Therefore, we have two different input requirements matrices(Γf and Γg) and two different output requirements matrices(Cf and Cg).
The study objectives of the present paper can be summarized as follows. (1) We intend to develop various indicators for measuring the linkage effects for the matrices Cg, Γf and Γg. One of the useful analytical tools developed by P. N. Rasmussen(1957), based upon the forward and backward linkage effects among industries and sectors, was that of the linkage analysis. (2) We can compare the usefulness and characteristics of interindustry linkages for four different input and output requirements matrices
The economic interpretations of the impact and sensitivity coefficients for each requirements matrix are entirely different because the initial changes and its corresponding input(or output) requirements are not the same. The characteristics of four requirements are as follows: (1) the matrix Cf: the total(direct and indirect) output requirements for a given change in final demand; (2) the matrix Cg: the total output requirements for a given change in output; (3) the matrix Γf, the total input requirements for a given change in final demand; (4) the matrix Γg : the total input requirements for a given change in output.
