Korean women workers have increased labor market participation since the economic crisis in 1997. Of them, married women who live with their husbands joined labor market with a most rapid increasing rate of labor market participation. This study focuses on analyzing the factors why they increased the labor market participation. The data used are the fifth Korean labor panel data collected by the Labor Research Institute. The model adopted is a Logit regression method. The results show that ages, education, employment status of husbands, wages of husbands influence the labor market participation by married women. An important finding of this study is that women have increased the labor market participation after the economic crisis in 1997 mainly due to losing jobs of their husbands and declining household incomes. This indicates that women in Korea start to liberate from housekeeping chores and upbringing of infants which forced women traditionally to stay at home.
