This paper investigates recent patterns of Japanese MNCs or other foreign operating firms' divestment. The sample in his study includes almost all of the population of Japanese firms divested from overseas management in 1999. The divestment data were collected from the Toyokeizai Data Bank, published in Japan annually. The 1997-1999 data used in the analysis consisted of 532 cases. The seven control variables were described by means, standard deviations. The significance of different divestment patterns were investigated by ANOVA and Duncan-tests. Although this study did not use the new investment cases or continuing firms, several findings are shown by countries and regions. However, future research should use additional information such as financial ratios, and other investment or divestment related variables for profound study.
