The United States trade deficit has increased dramatically since 1990. So many people has worried about it. Finally U.S. Congress established the U.S. Trade Deficit Review Commission to investigate the causes, dangers and how they might be avoided. Twelve members were named, six by Democratic Party and another six by Republican Party.
There are different two views in the Report. Republican Commissioners' views are mainly as follows.
1. causes: Primarily US economy has good performance relatively to other countries.
2. consequences: A soft landing is likely to happen.
3. recommendations: US government should pursue globalization through WTO.
Democratic Commissioners' views are mainly as follows.
1. causes: Unfair trade practices of other countries
2. consequences: A hard landing is expected.
3. recommendations: Unfair trade practices should be eliminated.
I think Republican Commissioners' views are closer to the fact.
